Competitive Link Detox

Today we have launched our new Competitive Link Detox tool. This new tool has many competitive features that will take your link analysis and link building to a new level giving you more insights to make better SEO decisions and build better links.

We have also released a lot of powerful new improvements to our Link Detox tool that will make it easier for you to analyze your reports and organize your work. In this post you will learn about the new Competitive Link Detox tool and new features that you now have access to.

Competitive Link Detox…

Knowing how your Link Detox risk compares with your competition is the first step in understanding why your competitors could be out ranking you in the search engines for specific keywords or why you suffered a penalty and they didn’t.

With the new Competitive Link Detox tool you will be able to compare up to 10 competitors to see the total average Link Detox risk along with the top 5 and top 3 averages of your competitors in a visual format, so you can instantly see where your website sits in the comparison. This is a method we already introduced with the Competitive Landscape Analyzer (CLA) over two years ago and now empower Link Detox Pro Plans and the Superhero Plan with it.

This new tool displays the individual Domain-wide Link Detox Risk (Domain DTOXRISK™) levels of your competition in one easy to read report ready for you to analyze.

Link Detox Summary

Of course it’s a lot worse if you look like in this chart:

This is the screenshot from a site that not only suffered in Penguin TWICE but also got a bad spam penalty for being “pure spam” by Google recently. We’ll publish a full Deep Dive case-study in our typical format in the next days on it. Sign up to our case study list for free to not miss it.

Strong Links of your competitors…

See where your competitors are getting ALL their GOOD backlinks from

The Competitive Link Detox report will automatically have a pre-defined filter slice called "Strong Links of my competitors with low DTOXRISK™" this will display all the strong links for all of your competitors. Your own link wish list if you will.

So if you have been wondering why you can’t out rank your competition in the search engines then this new feature will help you discover where your competition is getting all their links from so you can get a backlink from these good places too.

Link Detox – Power Update…

Other new features added to the Link Detox Tool…

In addition to the new Competitive Link Detox (CDTOX) tool we also improved our existing tools, started with Link Detox of course.

New Theme Selection feature for more accurate results.

Our new theme selection feature is now available inside the Link Detox tool and Competitive Link Detox tool to make your reports more accurate for specific niche markets. This new feature better handles rules such as SUSP5 = (Domain’s Theme is listed as suspicious (Adult, Gambling, High Risk etc.). So these rules will not be triggered for adult sites if you select an adult related theme and this makes your reports much more accurate. While the rule was good for mainstream markets we realized those high risk niches need special handling.

Disavow whole domains (or pages) directly from the link detail table

Now you have the ability to quickly and easily disavow whole domains or individual pages directly from inside the details summary table. This new feature will save you allot of time when wanting to disavow all backlinks coming from a selected domain name.

Link Detox Summary

Multi Disavow

Now you can also filter suspicious links by any criteria and then disavow an entire block of links simultaneously for domain or page. This is a real productivity charm.

Organize your Links and Workflow with Tags

In the details summary section you can now tag each link that you are working on. So if you have already contacted some webmasters for link removal you can tag it as “mail sent” for example. This will help you keep track of all the webmasters that you have contacted or you might want to further review a link so you might want to tag it with “review”.

Tagging each link is in your complete control so you can tag it with anything you think is appropriate.

Once you have tagged your links you can easily sort the results by tag then by typing the tag name inside the search field in the Tags column and all links marked with a specific tag you are searching for will be displayed.

Of course you can also use a complex combination of tags to filter by, using our fancy filters you already know.

Link Detox Summary

This new feature makes it easier to keep track of what you have done with your links.
(Mailed, removal requested, partner, etc.)

To manage all of the tags you have added for a specific link simply click on the (number) and you will be able to manage all of the tags that you have assigned to each link.

The sky is the limit for this new feature and we are happy that we deliver this after having literally hundreds of clients ask for it already.

You can also add several links at the same time with a tag as previously in the multi-Disavow. You must select only the relevant lines, or even all visible, and then enter the tag in the multi-action bar.

Link Detox Summary

Sitewide links

The next time you run a Link Detox report it will display a new Sitewide Links column in the details summary section of your report. This column will display the number of sitewide links coming from a specific domain that has a link to your website. If there are a lot of sitewide links coming from a specific domain you can use our new Grouping by domains feature to find out more information about each sitewide link that has been detected.

Link Detox Summary

Grouping by Domains

If you want to see all the sitewide links coming from a particular domain name you can now do that by clicking on the group by domain feature

Link Detox Summary

Once you have clicked this Group By Domain feature it will show you all of the backlinks coming from a specific domain name that are linking to your website. This new feature will allow you to make an informed decision about whether or not you should disavow a whole domain name. If you see too many spammy links coming from a domain name then it will be a good idea to disavow the whole domain name.

New Data Source for Link Detox (the newest links – Link Alerts)

This month we added a new data source into our Link Detox tool that will make your Link Detox reports even more accurate by instantly displaying all the new links found by Link Alerts in all of your new Link Detox reports. So if you are using our Link Alerts tool you will instantly see these newly found links inside your Detox reports as soon as they are found by Link Alerts.

Just another great reason to Link Alerts, if not for the link alerts, brand and mention monitoring you can use it since 2010, then to improve your Link Detox reports now.

New Link Detox Rules

SUSP18 – This Link Detox Rule will be triggered if a young domain (less than 6 months old) has a low LRT Power*Trust Domain < 3

SUSP19 – This Link Detox Risk rule will be triggered if an older domain (Over 6 months old) has no Homepage PageRank. (This is usually a sign for a penalty.)

The Linkresearch tool is very handy with smart options and filters, i will try the new Detox today to see if it is working fine!

    • Christoph on July 1, 2013 at 7:17 pm

Thanks Gijs, let me know how it goes!

  2. Michael Marshall on July 1, 2013 at 4:06 pm

These new features are great. I especially like the Link Detox Screener. I spend an incredible amount of time manually examining pages (in combination with LRT metrics) that are borderline cases to determine whether they warrant a link removal request. This will be an incredible improvement to that workflow!

    • Christoph on July 1, 2013 at 7:18 pm

Thanks Michael – glad you like it. looking fw to your further feedback.

You guys are doing a great job..

  4. Matthew on July 4, 2013 at 12:35 pm

    Hello Chris,
I am using your tool. Here is my concept. All these comparisons you are mentioning above do not factor in the “disavow” list that our competitors have very likely filed with Google. That means all your data above are potentially skewed big time! The more links a competitor has disavowed (which your tool totally ignores) the more balloni the above charts are. What do tell us about that?

    • Christoph C. Cemper on July 5, 2013 at 4:15 pm

      Hi Matthew

      thanks for your feedback.

      RE:your tool totally ignores
This is not correct, with our round-trip disavow you can upload your disavow data, so at least for your own site(s) the picture is very accurate.

But you are right that the “other” disavows are not factored in at the moment, but only your own.
I’m aware of this and we’re working on solving that.

Fact is, you can find healthy links very well already, and if there are rare cases where the top ranking sites have highly risky links,
it can be assumed at the moment that something has been disavowed. Please stay tuned for a solution to this issue very soon.

I had used link detox to remove my client links and when i try this tool, it’s impress me about my client backlinks then I download all bad links and check manually. Why those links come under red light.

  6. George on January 20, 2014 at 8:31 am

Good the see the simple UI of Link Detox, is there a money back policy if we didn’t liked the product ?

  7. Alan Gray on May 26, 2014 at 8:58 am

Often, people send link removal requests to me (we are a newspaper) for press releases that we used to publish, but have now deleted. They don’t even check to see if those pages still exist before they write. In some cases, we removed them more than a year ago.

That causes a waste of time for them and for us.

Do your tools detect that the source page is no longer there?
Or if it is there, that the link is still there?
Or if it is there, whether it is nofollow or not?
