Analyzing your Backlink Profile just became more effectively through the keyword classification feature you know from the Competitive Landscape Analyzer. You are now able to classify your Anchor Texts in the BLP and do even better and more detailed analysis!

Like in CLA, we distinguish between "Money", "Brand", "Compound" and "Other" keywords.

Here’s an example of a Compound Keyword: "Latest news on cnn.com" would be a Compound Keyword for cnn.com because it is composed by the Money Keyword “Latest news” and the Brand Keyword “cnn.com”. A typical "Other" keyword would be "click here".

We’re happy to announce that we have an agreement with SEMRush that allows us to show the number of keywords a domain ranks (the SEO metric is called “KwDomain”) for to all customers at no extra charge.
Don’t forget: You can select which country you want to see this SEMRush data for in the project settings!

Yahoo Site Explorer went offline on Nov 21 and left a big black hole. Doing a quick lookup of backlinks of a site suddenly stopped working the way it used to work.

QBL (Quick Backlinks) by Link Research Tools fills the gap as the perfect replacement for Yahoo Site Explorer finally.

Finally. This has been long awaited and postponed by over a year, at least for us.

Did you ever start a number of reports into the wrong project? Was it annoying to move each of them to the correct project separately? The new multi-select feature we’re bringing to the Report Overview allows you to move and delete as many reports as you want at once. This unobtrusive feature will make working with the Report Overview so much more convenient, you will wonder how you could do without it!

Intergration with Raven SEO

A few months ago, we asked you which link building workflow tools you were using. Since we’re increasingly launching our link prospecting tools publicly as part of the Link Research Tools, having the option to export link prospects into those link building tools was obviously something we’ve been working on hard.

Select the URLs you want to export to the Raven Tools and click the “Export for Raven Tools”-link.

Then download the file, click the “Import” link and upload it. You’re all set!

Please note two things:

1. Raven management confirmed that CSV imports do suck to some point and will give us an API just like other workflow tools have.
2. We will launch integration into additional link managment solution very soon – watch this space or contact us
   to suggest new important tools to integrate into

Analyze Subfolder Backlinks in BLP

Did you ever work on a website that has different sections for different topics and different departments? Doing SEO can be especially tedious for them, because analyzing those areas separately, when there are no subdomains, requires lots of weeding out the data that isn’t relevant to a certain part of the domain.

Subfolder backlinks should help you do your work more efficiently. This innovative approach to link types means that instead of showing all the links to a domain, we only show those that link directly into a certain subfolder.

Not all SEOs will need that, but we know that some of you will love it!

Improved Encoding Support

If you’re not working with the English language only, you will know special characters like German Umlauts or Kyrillic letters have caused problems in the past. We’ve worked hard to change that and are happy to tell you that encoding problems should be a thing of the past in the Link Research Tools.

Compound Keywords in CLA

The Competitive Landscape Analyzer just got a bit cooler. You can classify “Compound Keywords” in addition to Brand keywords, Money keywords and Other keywords.

What is a compound keyword? Well, that’s a mixture typically containing the Money keyword and the Brand keyword. This could be <Brand Name> <Widgets> – just like “Samsung DVD-Player” or
“Interflora Flowers” or a similar combination where a Brand keyword is very well combined with the Money keyword, thus helping the rankings of the latter too.

They seem to have the correct Compound ratio (but suck at Brand/Money). How about you?

1. The Link Alerts email notification is now optional, too. You can deactivate it on the settings page.
2. In addition to the Project-based domain blacklist, there’s now also a global domain blacklist, where we recommend you put in URLs like wikipedia.org.
3. Superheros can now add the logo of a client to a Project, which will be shown in PDF-files that are exported from the Link Research Tools.

You can see that some have a Facebook or LinkedIn profile, many have websites. Surendra Kumar Anne has a blog about Linux. Can you use this information in your contacting approach? Or do you think it’s better to use Twitter for your first contact? You also see that GB Banfield has tons of different facebook profiles and websites she manages, so there’s plenty off opportunity to read up on her and contact her.

Deep Link Ratio analysis to cure Google Panda problems

You don’t have to be a SEO guru to know that a site that only gets links to its start page looks a bit suspicious. But is it really? And what’s the correct ratio?
While the DLR has been around for years, Google Panda made this more important now again. Look up your and your competitors’ deep link ratio using Backlink Profiler and Competitive Landscape Analyzer reports, which provide you with this information in an easy to read chart. Panda drops are said to be related to the wrong deep link ratios, but as always, it depends on your country, language, keyword and niche. Unless you have looked at the competition you never know. Don’t believe the generalized hype.

Improved Project Management

We completely redesigned the projects section within the Link Research Tools to let you manage your projects with ease. Our concern was to avoid selecting a project each time you want to start a report, or filter the results by project each time that you pick the “Report Overview” or the “Favorites” (formerly “URL Hotlist”).

Now you're all set. Your interface is switched to the new project.

This also changes the way that reports work.

You can

• preset your client’s URL
• preset competitors’ URLs which will be preset in the report forms
• define a blacklist of URLs that you don’t want to get returned by the “Find Competing Pages”-feature
• preselect the search engine country and language for the “Find Competing Pages”-feature

Advanced Project Settings

Most people create projects to do research around a specific domain. You can now specify default parameters in your project settings. This way you have to set your site specification like URL and competitors only once (and not in every report).

International Settings

You can now select your preferred search engine country and language for each project separately. These settings are used in every tool that uses the “Find Competing Pages” feature.

And for those of you that use SEMRush, you can now select for which one of SEMRush’s eight different country databases you want to access instead of always getting the data from the USA database.

Domain-Blacklist

You probably noticed that websites like Wikipedia and others get returned regularly using the “Find Competing Pages”-feature. Since Wikipedia is most likely not a site you can (or want to) compete with, you can now simply blacklist it and don’t have to manually remove it every time.

URL Hotlist becomes the powerful Favorites

You asked and we delivered. The Favorites feature (formerly known as URL Hotlist) has been improved. Big time. And we’re only getting started!

You can now

• start JUICE reports for URLs in the Favorites
• export favorites to CSV or XLS

These improvements are only a precursor for things to come and shall help manuel workflows today. You’ll see here – as soon as possible – the integration into external Linkbuilding workflow tools right from within the new Favorites.

It’s now also much easier to add URLs to the Favorites to begin with. All you have to do is to click the little star that you already know from the SERP Research Tool and it goes right into your Favorites. Note that this feature is only available for new reports, not for the old ones.

Do you always use the “Basic SEO stats”-package? We do, but there’s also a few others we use most of the time. We now present a new feature that should make your world much easier: Pre-selected SEO Metrics! Instead of selecting the same SEO metrics again and again, you can now store the SEO metrics for future reports after creating a report.

Improved Site Type Detection

If you liked our SiteType metric, you’ll love it even more now. We got our hands dirty and tweaked this module so it works far more precise now. Besides being more accurate, it also detects content farms and a number of free hosters. If you have further suggestions to improve SiteType, please contact us!

Robots-Metatag Metric

With this new version of LRT we check the Robots meta tag for you – it tells if search engines follow links, index or archive a page or the opposite. Get all this information fast and automated in every report! This can be VERY helpful for digging deep in extended competitive research.

TLD Distribution Chart

The types of TLDs linking to your site can matter in your SEO work. If you’re running a site with content specifically tailored for German customers, you should have have lots of links from German-speaking countries. Half of the links from the site we analyzed are from .com, a quarter from German or Austrian sites. Is it enough? That depends on your competition!

How many G+1 votes should I get?

There’s no simple answer to that question. It’s all about naturality and popularity. That means that the quality of your Link Profile is related to the profiles of other websites. Your goal is to convince Google that your website is popular and natural. Lets take a look at the following example:

In this example we compared the website techcrunch.com to the top-10 for the keyword “technology blog” with our CLA tool. At the first glance it looks like Google+ 1 votes actually harm techcrunch.com but if you take a closer look you see that the top-5 and the top-3 have at least 1 page that has over 1000 G+1 votes. Of course it could also be that simply too many pages of techcrunch are liked.

Interestingly the best ranking site guardian.co.ok which has a lot of domain authority ranks for the keyword “technology blog”. Is it because it’s the only domain that has 2 pages with over 1000 G+1 votes?  There’s no definitive answer to that question right now but it’s definitely a thing to keep an eye on.

For our example we used the website www.jetstar.com. Let’s assume we want this website to link for the keywords “cheap flights” and “cheap ticket”. (You can add up to 20 keywords.) In case our options are not precise enough for you, you can also type in your own Google search parameters in there.

For now we want to find forum links where we would later post our links. Of course we don’t want to find ancient threads to bump so we set age to 1 year max. This saves you some time because comments on old forums are often considered SPAM immediately – or it might not be possible to post anymore. You can however just take all Google results into consideration if you want to find old pages that carry higher authority. You can still refine the results by using Google search parameters in the “Keywords” field.

Get the best opportunity for a backlink

What you get is a detailed list of every page (in our case forum) that ranks for the keywords you entered. With the filtering options you are able to narrow down your list of links (e.g. only pages with a mozRank of at least 4 or with the highest possible a CEMPER Juice&tm; of Juice/25).

The “Linked” column tells you where you already posted a link. So you can make sure that you got all the important ones as well. It’s also a surefire method to prevent double-posting a backlink. Your goal is to have all the pages of interest have “Yes” in the Linked-Column after a few weeks or months of link prospecting and link building.

Link Alerts: Dropped Links and Update

Last Google Update

Based on customer-feedback dropped links are now not displayed by default. If you want these links to be displayed you can change this in Link Alert’s settings anytime.

You can further check the date of the last time a Google Update occured. That might be an indicator of the time a backlink occured on older pages.

Backlink Profiler: Target URLs

In the Backlink Profiler (formerly BATT Tool) there is a column that shows where a backlink links to exactly. If it’s switched on you don’t have to check the details view every single time. It might be that the domain of a link has stronger pages. Wouldn’t it be pity to waste Link Juice over months or even years while a simple email to the admin would be enough to replace the link?

In your report-overview you can now rename multiple reports very easily. If the cursor moves above a report name, a link “rename” appears at the right end of this cell. If clicked, a small window opens in which you can edit the name of the report without leaving the report-overview.

Link Alerts: Dropped Links und Update

Letztes Google Update

Auf Basis von Kunden-Feedback werden Dropped Links nun standardmäßig nicht angezeigt. Wenn man diese Links trotzdem sehen möchte, kann man dies in den Einstellungen der Link Alerts jederzeit ändern.

Außerdem zeigen wir bei jedem gefundenen Backlink das Datum an, wo laut Google das letzte Update erfolgt ist. Das ist bei älteren Seiten dann oft ein Indikator dafür wann der Link vermutlich entstanden ist.

Backlink Profiler: Target URLs

Im Backlink Profiler (vorher BATT Tool) gibt es nun eine Spalte, die anzeigt wo ein Backlink genau hinzeigt. Wenn diese eingeschalten ist, muss man nicht jedesmal in die Detailansicht klicken. Womöglich hat die Domain wo der Link hinzeigt stärkere Pages. Wäre doch schade den Link Juice über die Jahre zu verschwenden, wo doch oft ein einfaches Email an den Administrator ausreicht um den Link umzusetzen, oder?

In der Report-Übersicht kann man nun spielend leicht die Reports umbenennen. Wenn sich der Cursor über einen Report-Namen befindet, erscheint rechts in der Zelle ein Link “ändern” – wo sich ein kleines Fenster öffnet und man gleich hier den Report umbenennen kann, ohne die Report-Übersicht zu verlassen.
